The Chicago Tribune Spotlights the New Terminal 5 Parking Garage at O’Hare International Airport
The new Terminal 5 Parking Garage at Chicago O’Hare International Airport “rises to the occasion,” according to Edward Keegan of The Chicago Tribune. SCB’s aviation practice group led the design and delivery of the garage under Design Principal Martin Wolf, FAIA, creating a visually impactful entry point to the airport that significantly enhances the passenger experience by more than doubling the number of parking spaces available.
Although parking garages may not typically offer much design interest, the Terminal 5 parking garage inventively adds to Chicago’s rich architectural tradition with its distinctive elements. “There’s a thoughtful playfulness to the screen’s lower edge,” writes Keegan. “Rather than clad the exterior all the way to the ground, the architects cue off the swooping curve of the ramps to raise the curtain, striking a gentle curve that suggests a monumental archway where you enter the structure.”
