As airports face growing cargo demand and increasingly constrained sites, cargo facilities must accomplish more within a smaller footprint.

The design for Cargo Building 626 at San Francisco International Airport, recently featured in the San Francisco Business Times, reimagines the traditional cargo facility as one of the first vertical cargo buildings in the United States. By integrating advanced automation, vertically organized operations, and high-throughput material handling systems, the project demonstrates how design can unlock greater capacity, efficiency, and flexibility within a constrained site.

The project reflects the work of SCB’s San Francisco office, where our teams have spent decades solving complex challenges and shaping thoughtful, high-performing places across the Bay Area.
