Two SCB projects, Raye and The Bell, have been named finalists for the AIA Chicago Lerch Bates People’s Choice Awards in the Multi-Family Residential and Office categories.

Raye introduces new density and a distinctly urban residential experience within a suburban context. As the tallest building in its community, the two-tower development establishes a new presence while remaining responsive to its surroundings. Elevated bridges containing through-unit apartments and outdoor amenity spaces connect the towers, creating a defining element of the design and a new way to experience the building.

The Bell transforms a 1960s Chicago office tower for a new generation while building on its distinctive mid-century character. The comprehensive repositioning extends from the arrival experience to the top of the building, where an underutilized mechanical floor was reclaimed and an entirely new level was added. A monumental stair connects nearly 60,000 square feet of wellness, dining, social, and conferencing spaces across three floors, culminating in new indoor and outdoor spaces with expansive views of the city. Together with redesigned plazas and a reimagined lobby, these interventions fundamentally change how the building is experienced.

One establishes a new residential landmark while the other transforms an existing Chicago icon. Together, Raye and The Bell demonstrate the power of design to create lasting value, respond to changing needs, and strengthen the places where people live and work.⁠
