We Are SCB

Christina Payerhofer

How long have you been at SCB?

2 years.

How did you end up at SCB?

This is my first job after graduating.  I was looking for a firm that works in multiple sectors as I knew I wanted to gain exposure to a wide range of project and building typologies.

What initially attracted you to study design or pursue a career in design?

Initially, I wanted to become an interior designer to create captivating spaces for people to live in. While attending an interior design high school, I was exposed to architecture and the idea of impacting the built environment at a bigger scale. After enrolling in an undergraduate program for architecture, I fell in love with both the creative as well as the technical aspect of the profession and I’ve never looked back. I believe that responsible and inclusive design can make a difference in our communities, and I am excited to be a part of it.

What is the most interesting thing you have worked on in the past couple of weeks?

I am currently involved in the permit process of a project, which is a completely different aspect of the common perception of what working in architecture means. I am learning about the administrative side of the profession and how it impacts a project becoming reality.

What is the best professional advice you have ever received?

Ask more questions. English is my second language and I struggled for a long time finding the confidence to speak up when I didn’t understand something. Since starting my professional career, I have learned that asking questions is not a weakness but rather a way to grow and advance as a professional.
