Terminal 5 Garage ORD
Client
City of Chicago
Location
O'Hare International Airport, Chicago, IL
The Terminal 5 Parking Garage is a signature landside investment within Chicago’s O’Hare 21 program and significantly expands access to the airport’s growing Terminal 5. The new six-level, 2,340-space structure increases public parking capacity, supports ground transportation operations, and improves the overall arrival and departure experience for travelers.
SCB designed the facility as a highly efficient and intuitive parking environment with compact floor plates, helical speed ramps, real-time parking guidance systems, and EV charging. Roadway and curbfront improvements further streamline drop-off and pick-up activity and strengthen connections to the terminal.
Architecturally, the garage creates a new front-door identity for O’Hare. A corrugated metal façade wraps the building in a unified sculptural form inspired by the movement of air, and pedestrian circulation cores offer elevated views of the terminal and airfield. The design also accommodates long-term expansion to 3,790 spaces and future hotel development.
The project enhances passenger convenience, improves traffic flow, and reinforces O’Hare’s vision for a modern, connected, and customer-focused airport campus.
