SCB is seeking a Senior Interior Designer to join our Campus Environments practice group in Chicago.

With work on more than 65 campuses across the country, we bring deep expertise to projects including student housing, student centers, dining halls, recreation and wellness facilities, academic and research spaces, and libraries, among others. The breadth of our experience allows us to deliver integrated, functional, and inspiring environments that support every aspect of the student experience and enrich a campus community.

As Senior Interior Designer in the Campus Environments practice group, you will lead and work in collaboration with design teams on projects across all scales and campus building typologies, nationwide. We are looking for an individual who has experience working with institutions of higher education, a passion for campus design, knowledge of the key trends shaping the higher education sector today, and a desire for professional growth.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for project design development of multiple projects working under minimal supervision of a sector Principal and applicable Senior Leadership.
  • Exhibit a thorough working knowledge of innovative interior architectural finishes, including familiarity with manufacturers and performance standards to meet our Client’s expectations.
  • Thorough understanding of the FF&E selection, specification, and procurement process from concept through execution. The senior designer will lead the effort in organizing the selection including the bidding process.
  • Lead the team through all phases of interior design work including space planning, color and material selection, FF&E selection and specification, schematic design, design development, construction documents and contract administration.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the capability to influence design outcomes.
  • Acute attention to detail and aesthetic sensibility.
  • Ability to take charge and respectfully direct younger staff at all project stages.

Essential Skills/Attributes

  • 9-12 years of professional design experience.
  • Strong portfolio of Higher Education experience preferred.
  • NCIDQ Certificate Holder, Registered Interior Designer or Licensed Architect preferred.
  • Ideally proficient in one or more of the following 3D digital modeling and graphics software such as Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, Grasshopper, Enscape, Adobe or Affinity Creative Suites.
