SCB is an award winning multi-disciplinary design firm with a national presence. We are looking for a creative, passionate, and driven project manager to work on planning and urban design projects in our Boston office.
As a project manager, you will work closely with the Principal in charge of the P+UD group and with the team, in a manner that meets clients’ goals and that advances SCB’s pursuit of design excellence. This role, within the P+UD group is one of open-ended possibilities for responsibility, client exposure, and overall leadership growth, suitable for a candidate with a positive outlook, and strong leadership and communication skills.
Ideal candidates will exhibit a passion for design, show a willingness to work in a collaborative environment, and possess an advanced understanding of planning and urban design principles. A strong understanding of project management fundamentals, including contracts, scheduling, fee proposals, and consultant management is essential. You will be responsible for the overall project performance while building lasting client relationships.
Essential Skills/Attributes
Interested candidate should have the following qualifications:
- Accredited professional degree in architecture or graduate degree in planning
- 5-15 years post-graduate, full-time working experience in architecture and/or planning and urban design
- Licensed Architect in the U.S. preferred
- Working knowledge of, and demonstrated experience with, local zoning ordinances and urban design guidelines
- Proficiency with contracts, project schedules, fee proposals, staffing and invoicing procedures
- Ability to lead multiple simultaneous projects, including consultants and internal staff
- A strong design sensibility
- Proficient in Revit, Bluebeam, GIS Software, Newforma and Excel; familiarity with software programs such as Enscape, SketchUp, Rhino, Affinity and Adobe Creative Suite
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement project design philosophy and work toward the successful execution of the project through design and entitlement/implementation phases
- Organize the work efforts of SCB’s project team on a day-to-day basis and function as the primary facilitator of communication between the in-house team, the client, and external consultants
- Participate in P+UD design ideation collaboratively and contribute to the creation of materials including massing studies, framework planning
- Manage and have responsibility for creation of final reports and presentation slide decks
- Represent SCB to clients in a manner that generates trust and cultivates long-term relationships
- Lead team meetings and client presentations, working closely with multidisciplinary teams
- Coordinate with SCB’s national architecture practice on combined projects
- Coordinate and maintain P+UD staffing, revenue projections, and monthly invoicing
- Prepare design services proposals for SCB services and support office leadership in the negotiation and execution of client contracts
- Lead the consultant procurement process, including evaluating proposals and developing contracts for awarded teams
- Mentor and train junior staff in a constructive and thoughtful manner
- Possess a willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally to lead and participate in P+UD projects located in a variety of jurisdictions
