SCB is an award-winning multi-disciplinary design firm with a national presence and a well-established ninety-year practice looking to grow our Seattle office by bringing on board a talented Project Designer to help build an office that is equal parts SCB and Seattle.
We are looking for a creative, passionate, and driven design professional who wants to help us build a great practice and office culture working on multi-family, mixed-use, commercial office, and higher education projects.
You’ll be joining us in our new office located downtown in the historic Skinner Building, with easy access to transit and the waterfront.
SCB Seattle, working in tandem with our San Francisco office, is already at work on several exciting projects throughout the Western US and Canada.
Essential Skills/ Attributes
- 5 or 6-year accredited professional degree in architecture.
- 4-8 years minimum post-graduate, full-time professional experience.
- Licensed Architect in the US preferred.
- Type 1/Type 3/Type 5 multi-family residential project experience. Commercial office, and higher education project experience a plus.
- Working knowledge of, and demonstrated experience with, local zoning ordinances, building codes and the process by which design solutions are quantified, illustrated and explained to approval authority’s ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals including clients, consultants, code officials and construction trades.
- Proficient in 3D digital modeling and graphics software such as Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, Grasshopper, 3ds Max, Enscape, and Affinity Publisher/Photo.
- Displays technical knowledge of building systems, material assemblies, and engineering concepts.
- Values superior client service.
- Have a passion for design, a pulse on emerging trends, and a developed point of view about your work.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the capability to influence design outcomes.
- Acute attention to detail and aesthetic sensibility.
- Enthusiasm for utilizing a diverse set of approaches to creative problem solving.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, hands-on, creative environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsibility for the formulation of the project design philosophy in conjunction with the Principal-in-Charge and adheres strictly to this philosophy in the execution of the work and in assignments to junior staff.
- Leads and supports client design presentations working closely with the Principal-in-Charge and multidisciplinary teams.
- Effectively prioritizes and fluidly transitions between of a range of concurrent projects at various stages of design.
- Reviews and conforms the design response to applicable zoning and / or development parameters.
- Throughout the project, reviews the drawing production for conformance to the design concept. In collaboration with the Principal-in-Charge, selects exterior and interior finishes, fixtures, colors and materials.
- When required by the local jurisdiction, participates in presentations and / or hearings to present the project. In collaboration with the Principal-in-Charge, prepares any filing documents or exhibits required by the local jurisdiction.
- Gives and solicits feedback from other designers in order to continually raise our bar for quality.
- Researches and promotes opportunities for new or innovative system applications, including artificial intelligence (AI). Actively looks for and implements techniques to improve quality of work and efficiency.
- Promotes a positive team environment with cooperative and interactive working methods and sets a high example of professionalism.
- Perform other duties as assigned and determined by SCB.
- Mentors and trains junior staff in a constructive and thoughtful manner.
Compensation
- Salary: $75,000 – $95,000 depending on experience.
