General

Responsible for design and technical development of an assigned project working under minimum supervision of a Senior Architect or Principal. May provide oversight of a project team working on a small to medium sized project, or on a significant portion of a large project. Assigned tasks may principally be design or technically focused or both, depending on the size and complexity of the project, and capabilities of the individual.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Capable of performing and experienced carrying out all duties and responsibilities of Designer Technical II position
  • Contributes to formulation of SCB and project design philosophy and adheres strictly to this philosophy in the execution of the work and in assignments to junior staff
  • Implements SCB’s procedures and office standards in their work
  • Prepares design and technical drawings and solutions to complex architectural and interdisciplinary problems. Capable of independently developing solutions to architectural problems
  • Contributes to the project BIM execution plan (BEP) and work plan in conjunction with senior team leaders including the timing and format of models, drawings, mockups, schedules, data summaries and specifications
  • Develops and checks project designs and details, coordinates work with others on project team and with outside project consultants
  • Checks own work for compliance with zoning, building code, accessibility, and other regulatory requirements, and helps to check for conformance by the project team
  • Effectively organizes work efforts and self-monitors time spent on tasks. Implements strategies for correction when tasks take longer than expected or when unexpected impediments to progress occur
  • Represents SCB during construction phase and is capable of performing all SCB construction phase activities such as review of shop drawings, responding to Contractor questions (RFI’s), or participating in BIM coordination meetings with Contractor and Consultants with minimum supervision of the Project Architect and Project Manager
  • Directs and supervises work of junior level staff in preparation of drawings, studies, models, and other project tasks. Mentors junior staff in a constructive and thoughtful manner
  • Researches and promotes opportunities for new or innovative system applications. Actively looks for and implements techniques to improve quality of work and efficiency
  • Promotes a positive team environment with cooperative and interactive working methods and sets a high example of professionalism and leadership for junior staff
  • Participates in Studio and Firm events
  • Attends Industry and Business Development Events
  • Participates in all required continuing education sessions

Qualifications, Essential Skills/Attributes

  • Fulfills all qualifications of Designer Technical II position
  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture
  • A minimum of 5 years post-graduate, full-time work under the supervision of an architect licensed to practice in the jurisdiction of employment
  • Pursuing license to practice Architecture in a minimum of 1 U.S. jurisdiction
  • LEED AP
  • Capable of performing the role of Job Captain
  • Expertise with Revit drawing program. Demonstrates Expertise with other modeling software and graphic illustration software programs such as Grasshopper, Rhino, Enscape, 3D Studio Max, and Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and In-Design.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and with other business-related software such as Bluebeam, Newforma, and Teams
  • Professional verbal, presentation, and written communication skills
  • Capable of working in the role of Job Captain
  • Foundational understanding of all phases of an architectural project including programming/ conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documents and construction
  • Foundational understanding of complex building materials and systems, details, and construction techniques, primary structural and MEPFP systems and their operation, and secondary building systems
  • Foundational understanding of zoning, building code, accessibility, and other regulatory requirements as they relate to the project
  • Foundational understanding of SCB’s procedures and office standards
  • Foundational understanding of the Owner / Architect agreement, project schedule, and project budget parameters
  • Exhibits a results-oriented attitude and takes initiative toward all aspects of project assignments
  • Acts in a professional manner. Is fair and displays integrity in business dealings
