Project Architect – Aviation

ChicagoWe are seeking a collaborative and driven Project Architect to join our growing aviation practice. Our ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience working on the design and technical development of aviation projects and thrives in a dynamic environment.
The right candidate is highly organized, experienced in developing solutions to complex architectural and interdisciplinary problems, and eager to take on the challenges of aviation projects. A strong understanding of digital delivery methods, building code and regulatory processes, and building materials & systems is essential.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares design and technical drawings and solutions to architectural and interdisciplinary problems. Capable of independently developing solutions to architectural problems
- Contributes to formulation of project design philosophy and adheres strictly to this philosophy in the execution of the work and in assignments to junior staff
- Leads team meetings and client presentations, working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
- Contributes to the project BIM execution plan (BEP) and work plan in conjunction with senior team leaders including the timing and format of models, drawings, mockups, schedules, data summaries and specifications
- Develops and checks designs and details, coordinates work with others on project team and with outside project consultants
- Directs and supervises work of junior level staff in preparation of drawings, studies, models, and other project tasks. Mentors junior staff in a constructive and thoughtful manner.
- Represents SCB during construction phase and is capable of performing all SCB construction phase activities with minimum supervision.
- Researches and promotes opportunities for new or innovative system applications. Actively looks for and implements techniques to improve quality of work and efficiency.
- This is an on-site position based in Chicago, with the expectation of working in the office four days per week to enhance project flexibility and connection with team members.

- Expertise with Revit and other modeling software and graphic illustration software programs such as Grasshopper, Rhino, Enscape, 3D Studio Max, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Expertise in business management tools including Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Newforma, and Teams.
- Foundational understanding of all phases of an architectural project; code, accessibility, and regulatory requirements; complex building materials, systems, details, and construction techniques, primary structural and MEP/FP systems and their operation, and secondary building systems.
- Foundational understanding of the Owner/Architect agreement, project schedule, and project budget parameters
Perform Other Duties as Assigned
- Participates in Studio and Firm events
- Attends Industry and Business Development Events
- Contributes to Firm activities to promote staff education
Qualifications
- Accredited professional degree in Architecture
- A minimum of 5 years post-graduate, full-time work experience. Experience in aviation, transportation, or complex public projects is a plus.
- Licensed to practice Architecture in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- LEED AP
