Mike is a Principal and design leader in SCB’s Campus Environments practice group, focusing on creating spaces and places dedicated to supporting the student experience at institutions of higher education. With over 25 years of experience, his portfolio of work spans all campus building typologies, from award-winning student life and recreation facilities to highly complex science buildings. His thoughtful approach to campus design is noted for responding to and reflecting an institution’s unique character and culture while being mindful of the social needs, technological demands, and intellectual aspirations of students.

Mike’s recent projects include Tooker House, a living/learning community for the Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University that was recognized with numerous accolades including awards from the AIA, SCUP, and Chicago Athenaeum, among others. Following the success of Tooker House, he is currently continuing his work on the Tempe campus with a new living/learning community for the Herberger Institute for Design and Art, which is under construction. On the east coast he has led the reimagining of two mid-century residence halls at Drexel University, Bentley Hall and Kelly Hall, completely renovating the student rooms and activating the programmatic offerings with two strategic additions to create space for the Pennoni Honors College and a campus commons. He has also completed several projects at Loyola University Chicago, including Francis Hall, the campus’ newest residence hall, and the highly sustainable Center for Translational Research and Education (CTRE).

In 2022, Mike helped establish and served as the first Studio Leader of the firm’s Campus Environments Studio, an integrated architecture and interior design studio dedicated to higher education. He is a frequent presenter at higher education conferences and has been a guest critic and lecturer at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has also exhibited at the Graham Foundation Chicago and the Chicago Architectural Club. He holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
