Matt Pietras is an Associate Principal with SCB San Francisco’s Campus Environments practice group. A proponent of evidence-based design, Matt’s strategic thinking connects deeply with his clients’ values, elevating their people, and advancing their missions. As a Project Manager, Matt navigates design and consultant teams through challenging permit and entitlement processes, within tight timelines and budgets. He also blends a strong sense of design with technical solutions that facilitate complex, interdisciplinary projects.
In his nearly 30 year career, he has been responsible for over two million square feet for premier institutions and organizations including Stanford University, University of California, and the developers CIM Group and Onni Group. Currently, Matt is the Project Manager for the largest planned student housing project at the University of California, Riverside, totaling nearly 4,000 beds thus far. He has also managed several skyline-defining residential tower projects in downtown Los Angeles and Oakland.
Matt works to promote a culture of innovation, trust and collaboration. He holds an Associate DBIA certification with the Design Build Institute of America. He also Co-Chairs the AIA San Francisco Committee on Architecture for Education – leading symposia and organizing education building tours – with the aim to elevate awareness of the impact that the built environment has on student success. He received his Master of Architecture from Columbia University and his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The Catholic University of America.
