How long have you been at SCB?

It’s complicated! Round 1: 2007-2011. Round 2: 2015-2022. About 10-11 years altogether.

How did you end up at SCB?

SCB was my first full-time job after college and I was excited to work for a (at the time) new-to-San Francisco firm that was involved in major projects such as One Rincon Hill that were transforming the city’s skyline.

What initially attracted you to study design or pursue a career in design?

I happened to take a drafting elective in high school taught by a local architect, which served as my introduction to architecture as a profession. I was drawn to the balance of rigor and art that is inherent in the practice of architecture.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy working with talented and dedicated people, not only within SCB, but also among the consultants and clients that I interface with on a day-to-day basis. Seeing projects come to fruition after years of hard work by the team is extremely rewarding.

What was/is your favorite/most rewarding project you have ever worked on and why?

While I love all of my projects, I have very fond memories of the first project I worked on at SCB: the 360 Residences in San Jose, during its construction phase. I was able to work directly with the project architect and general contractor for two years. I spent time in the field and learned how the lines we draw on the page relate directly to real-world construction. Having that experience early in my career was a game-changer, and I continue to advocate for giving younger staff the opportunity to work on projects in construction.
