Rockridge Sequoia Living reimagines senior living as an integrated part of the neighborhood, creating a mixed-use community where residents can remain connected to the people, places, and experiences that shape their daily lives. Located in the heart of Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood, the 745,600-square-foot development brings together 372 residences, wellness and social amenities, neighborhood-serving retail, and convenient access to transit within a walkable urban setting.
A continuum of residential options includes 340 independent living residences, 12 assisted living units, and 20 memory care residences. Amenity spaces throughout the podium and towers support an active, wellness-focused lifestyle, with multiple dining venues, an indoor swimming pool, fitness and activity spaces, art rooms, landscaped terraces, and sky lounges overlooking the Bay Area. Together, these spaces provide a variety of settings for gathering, recreation, wellness, and retreat.
Two slender residential towers rise from a multi-story podium designed to mediate between the scale of the development and the surrounding neighborhood. At the street level, terracotta, natural stone, generous glazing, and integrated landscaping create a warm, pedestrian-scaled environment, while townhouse-style residences and active ground-floor uses reinforce the character of the surrounding streets. Landscaped terraces extend the residential experience outdoors and help soften the transition between the podium and towers above.
Community input has also shaped the evolution of the design, including reduced tower heights and expanded ground-floor retail. Space for a future grocery along Miles Avenue, additional neighborhood-serving retail, and dedicated below-grade parking help activate the street frontage while strengthening connections to BART and the surrounding commercial district.
Together, the architecture, residential experience, and mix of uses offer a new approach to urban senior living, giving residents greater choice in how and where they live while allowing them to remain part of an established community.
