Two SCB Student Housing Projects Receive ENR California Awards of Merit
Two SCB-designed student housing communities have been recognized in ENR California’s 2026 Best Projects program. Hinarr Hu Moulik Student Housing at Cal Poly Humboldt received an Award of Merit in the Northern California Higher Education/Research category, while North District 2 at the University of California, Riverside (UCR) received an Award of Merit in the Southern California Higher Education/Research category. The ENR Best Projects program recognizes not only design and construction quality, but also project team collaboration, innovation, contributions to the AEC industry, and impact on the surrounding community. Those qualities are central to both projects, which respond to the need for more accessible student housing while advancing new approaches to the residential campus experience.
At Cal Poly Humboldt, Hinarr Hu Moulik adds nearly 1,000 beds to the university’s housing inventory, expanding on-campus capacity and helping relieve pressure on Arcata’s local rental market. At UCR, the 1,500-plus-bed North District 2 creates a shared residential community for UCR and Riverside Community College District students, establishing a new model for intersegmental housing that expands access to affordable housing and the residential campus experience.
Beyond adding much-needed student housing, both projects respond to larger priorities around affordability, access, campus growth, and student success. The recognition also reflects SCB’s ongoing relationships with both universities, where our work continues with new projects on each campus.
