SCB’s completion of the Belden-Stratford Redevelopment is a finalist for Redevelopment of the Year at the Chicago Commercial Real Estate Awards. When renovating the historic Chicago beaux-arts building, SCB designers aspired to create modern luxury while maintaining the beauty and craftsmanship of the original structure. The glass and steel canopy adorning the main entrance was reintroduced, and a ramp and handrails were added for enhanced accessibility. Inside, our interior designers recaptured the building’s former charm by opening the lobby mezzanine back up, allowing natural light to stream indoors, and delicate details, like the gold leaf shapes included on the original glided plaster molding, were meticulously restored. A warm color palette and plush forms, combined with the inherent elegance of marble, brass features, and crystal light fixtures, achieve our vision to make the past new again.
