Master Planning and Urban Design
Chennai Master Plan
Chennai, India
The former 70-acre Binny Gardens site is a phenomenal piece of property with a beautiful landscape. The goal was to take a landscape approach towards the master plan by respecting and enhancing the inherent qualities of the land and site characteristics. Creating a master planned community of 5000 new residential units was an ambitious project that recognized the concentration and scale of development essential for the rapidly growing economy of Chennai. Sustainability, especially water conservation, was key to the development of this plan since water harvesting goals for the area called for 100% grey-water capture. The site was design to take advantage of public transportation station by creating a primary boulevard that would link the residential neighborhoods to the train station.
