Master Planning and Urban Design
Riverside District Master Plan
Chicago, IL
This 60 acre site along the Chicago River just south of the South Loop provides a great opportunity for continuous growth in the area. Challenges in the development of the plan included site accessibility, establishing physical and visual linkages, and creating a unique sense of place. SCB’s design strategy sought to use landscape as a central quality of life feature with a linear "Central Park" connected to a network of ecological landscapes and pocket parks forming a greenway. A riverwalk linking a series of open spaces, defined by residential buildings and townhomes, will serve as a place of pedestrian activity connecting neighborhoods to the north and south.
