Easter Seals Metropolitan Chicago Therapeutic School & Center for Autism Research
Chicago, Illinois
The Easter Seals Metropolitan Chicago Therapeutic Day School provides educational and therapeutic services for children ages 3 to 21 with a primary diagnosis of autism, emotional behavioral disorders and/or learning disabilities. The goal of the Therapeutic Day School is to empower each student to achieve peak academic performance as well as to increase social and vocational skills for independence in their community. This new 87,000 sf state of the art facility is home to a new school, Research Center and Easter Seals Metropolitan Chicago corporate offices. The facility is a prime example of form following function. The layout, lighting, furnishings and finishes of the classroom and therapy spaces are designed upon the student’s needs. The master plan for the site allows for a second phase natatorium and gymnasium and a third phase of residential units where students transition to independent living. This facility is the first of its kind for Easter Seals in Chicago and stands as a model for future facilities around the country.
